BSN Honors Program Pathway A
Students accepted into the BSN Honors Program are dually accepted by the UNM Honors College. Students who choose to pursue Pathway A take Honors College coursework as part of their requirements in the BSN Honors Program. Students completing Pathway A earn both a Certificate in Honors Interdisciplinary Liberal Arts from the UNM Honors College and College of Nursing Departmental Honors.
This BSN Honors Program is only available to admitted nursing students, and we encourage pre-nursing students to review the admission requirements on the BSN Honors Program website if they are interested in participating in this BSN Honors Program in the future.
Pathway A
Earn a Certificate in Honors Interdisciplinary Liberal Arts from the UNM Honors College and College of Nursing Departmental Honors.
Students complete:
- 6 credit hours of honors study at the College of Nursing:
- NURS 495 Honors Seminar in Nursing
- NURS 496 Honors Capstone in Nursing
- 9 additional credit hours from the UNM Honors College
- Freshmen Direct-Entry students typically follow the following pathway:
- 3 CH of HNRS 1120 Legacy Seminar
- 3 CH of HNRS 2000-level course (typically this can satisfy a student’s general education requirements)
- 3 CH of UHON 300- or 400-level course
- Sophomore Entry students with significant prior college coursework (30 or more earned credits at UNM or another university or college, excluding AP credits) may choose to pursue an Alternative Entry Path:
- 3 CH of UHON 300- or 400-level course
- 6 CH of HNRS/UHON any-level course
- Freshmen Direct-Entry students typically follow the following pathway:
- A final capstone project with a scholarly product, such as a scientific poster and/or written paper, along with an oral presentation at a scholarly venue.
Honors College Courses
The Honors College offers small seminar-style classes, limited to 18 students, on interdisciplinary topics to foster an intimate and engaged learning environment. The Honors College’s grading system, A, CR, NC, is designed to give students the ability to take risks and try new, difficult things without putting their GPA at risk. 
All of the Honors College courses vary each semester. Students can view the Honors College Course Previews page to read course descriptions for upcoming Honors College courses.
Some example courses include: HNRS 1120 Legacy of the Videogame, HRNS 2113 The Art of Film, UHON 301 TB to COVID-19: What is Health?, and UHON 401 The Archaeology of Trails.
BSN Honors students often take courses that meet the following UNM General Education Requirements: HNRS 1120 Legacy Seminar (Area V-A: Humanities), HNRS 2112 (Area I: Communication), and HNRS 2113 (Area VI: Creative & Fine Arts).
