Honors College New Student Orientation
Honors College Fall 2017 New Student Orientation
SAVE THE DATE: AUGUST 17, 2017
This year the Honors College has decided to redesign the Honors New Student Orientation format. We are still working out the details with Honors faculty but here is what we can tell you. Incoming students are no longer required to sign up for an Honors Orientation session. Instead this year students will be automatically assigned an orientation session based upon the Honors Legacy Seminar (UHON 121 class) that they register for during their general UNM NSO visit. Students who do not register for a Fall 2017 Honors Legacy Seminar will be assigned an orientation session with other students who opted not to take an Honors class in the fall.
The Honors College will host a total of 4 Orientation Sessions on August 17 in the Honors College Forum and classroom areas as follows:
• Session #1: 8:30am-10:00am
• Session #2: 10:30am-12:00pm
• Session #3: 12:30pm-2:00pm
• Session #4: 2:30pm-4:00pm
*Students who are unable to attend their assigned orientation session will be given the opportunity to attend one of several make-up orientation sessions that will be hosted in the Honors College by Peer Advisors during the first couple weeks of when classes begin. Attendance to your assigned Honors NSO or an Honors NSO make-up session is required to retain your Priority Registration status.
Keep in mind that it is highly advisable that you register for an Honors Legacy Seminar in the fall as we offer 25 sections, while in the spring we only offer between 4-6 sections. You have many more sections to choose from in the fall and taking an Honors class right away ensures that you retain your Priority Registration and active status in Honors.
Once we have confirmed the availability of Honors College faculty we will post which Honors Legacy seminars have been assigned to each Orientation session on this webpage as well as send out an email notification to all newly admitted stduents. The email will also include instructions to complete documentation that they will submit during check-in at the Honors NSO. We hope to have more information in the coming weeks. Finally, make sure you begin checking your UNM Email account as that is the account where we will likely share any Honors NSO updates. Should you have any questions before then please do not hesitate to contact Luis Rocha at email@example.com.
