Preview Night gives students the satisfaction of signing up early for all of their classes!

Preview Night

The Honors Program offers Preview Night as an opportunity for the Honors community to come together and meet the faculty who will be teaching in the coming semester, as well as learn more about the seminars being offered. The Honors Student Advisory Council and the Honors Peer Advisors co-host the event and keep to an efficient schedule of presentations. Normally the event starts at 5:00 p.m. and can end as early as 7:00 p.m., which is why late admittance is not permitted after 5:30 p.m. Please refer to the Upcoming Events page for the date and time of the next Preview Night. We will post this information as early as possible so that students can make arrangements with their employers or other professors.

Priority Registration

Priority Registration has long been one of the unique benefits granted to Honors students. The UNM Registrars' Office determines the dates when all students attending the university can sign up for classes. Generally, transfer students register first, followed by graduate students, then seniors, juniors, sophomores and finally freshmen. The grade levels are determined by accumulated credit hours at the University. However, with Priority Registration Honors students, regardless of accumulated credit hours can register on the same day as graduate students. Essentially, Honors students can get a "first-pick" of courses and thereby coordinate their busy school, work, and family schedules.

How It Works

The new Banner system integrated at UNM has changed the way students register for Honors classes. Course numbers now appear on LoboWeb; however, all Honors students must obtain "departmental permission" to add an Honors seminar to their schedule. The Honors office can grant permission to students who have filled out an Override Card, are in good standing with the Honors Program, and have seen an Honors Peer Advisor early in the current semester. (Seniors currently working on a Senior Option or who will complete the Senior Colloquium/Service Learning component in the coming semester do not need to see a Peer Advisor in order to obtain an Override Card.)

Students who attend Preview Night will be given a Priority Override Card which will be processed in time for the Priority Registration deadline. This gives attendees the added benefit of being able to sign up for their Honors seminars and general UNM courses all on the Priority Registration date. Students who are unable to attend Preview Night can still pick up an override card in the Honors office which will be processed one week after the Priority Registration date.
