Curriculum Vitae

Bio:

Dr. Megan B. Abrahamson earned her BA and MA in English (Medieval Studies) from the University of New Mexico, with a quick study abroad stop at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, and her PhD in English (Medieval and Renaissance Studies) from the University of Missouri (M-I-Z!). Born and raised in Albuquerque, she now teaches full time at Central New Mexico Community College and part time for her alma mater, as a former Honors student herself. Her interest in Medieval Studies is inspired by a love of the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, and she is on the board of the Mythopoeic Society as well as involved in hosting a Science Fiction/Fantasy group for CNM faculty and students. Her dissertation, “Fanfiction, Medieval Romance, and the Erotics of Shame,” uses theories of fanfiction to understand later medieval romances as works that were not only reread and rewritten, but transformed through affective reading and rewriting strategies used by fans today. Megan teaches Honors courses on Fandom and Fantasy/Science Fiction.

Research Interest:

Medieval romance, Arthuriana, Tolkien, fantasy/science fiction, speculative fiction, gender, race, fans and fandom, film and media studies.
