Course Description

This class asks questions, finds data, and pursues interesting stories using the world of sports.  During the first half of the semester, students will take a survey of what other people (scholars, writers, analysts, documentarians, etc) are doing with and through sports.  During the second half, students will pursue their own big sports-related question or storyline!

About the Instructor(s): Ryan Swanson

Ryan Swanson is an Associate Professor and Chair in the Honors College at UNM. He also serves as the Director of the Lobo Scholars Program.  Ryan has published widely on the role of athletics in the United States.  In the classroom, he teaches courses on sports, history, and the legacy of failure.  During the pandemic, Ryan was one of those professors who frequently forgot to unmute himself while talking on Zoom.  Ryan and his wife Rachael have three children.  They reside in Corrales, NM.
